Lacquer Problems??
« on: February 05, 2011, 05:15:20 PM »
Hi All,

I work for myself doing mobile alloy wheel refurbishing (platinum Alloys UK Ltd)
Recently I have started to have a few problems with lacquering.
On the odd job I seem to get pimples in my lacquer almost like its got a rash or something! at first I thought it could be moisture but I now have two water traps before my gun! and have still sometimes get this problem? Any Ideas what could be causing this?

Many Thanks In Advance.

Anthony

I'd guess at either water contamination (have you drained the compressor recently?) or silicone getting into the repair

How long are you giving it to flash off before you apply the second coat.

This can sometimes happen if the surface is too hot before you apply the clear or when you do not allow enough flash off time between coats and before applying heat with your lamps.
Your only as good as your last repair.

Try a silicone additive it can also be used as a thinner too. Its not always the best way to go but workin next to a valet bay it really helps me. I think this would help as u have water catchers too happy painting dude.

Silicone additive works but is added in such small quantities that Smart repair operatives seldom mix enough to get the ratio correct and the result is a lack of surface tension and a finish thats like laquering on waxed paint !  If this happens, the best way to add it is to add a couple of drops to your tin of hardener first.
