Talk about bad day..............

Started bad when I burned the primer due to the IR getting a hotspot. The IR bulb then promptly went into meltdown. To top it off the IR thermometer batteries died.

Days like that are a disaster - I did a Kia wheel refurb recently on a 2010 Cee'd.  3 wheels done, went to jack up the car to take off the 4th, and the jack went up through the sill.  Worse again, the guy took that exact moment to pop out and ask how I was getting on.  He took it pretty well, but I was gutted.

I considered myself lucky. As It backed off the ramps, it slipped off. Miraculously no damage.

It was a few years ago now admittedly. Basically, I had windscreen to do on a HGV. Turned up and asked where the truck was, directed to a shed. The lights were off and I walked around the front to look at the damage and promptly fell into the inspection pit. Now that's a bad day, knocked out cold and was very sore when I come round which continued for several weeks after.

How did you get round that problem then?  Does it need a new sill welding in?

I was hoping to be able to get into the sill some way, but it was a closed box section.   Only thing I could do was bring it to a friends workshop, stick it up on the ramp, weld on a bar and pull it back in shape as best as possible, skim filler, prime, do the schultz where it needed to be done, paint and lacquer.  Lots of downtime, and a net overall loss.  But sure, the bad days make the good days so much better eh??

Could get you some brownie points with the customer though.  He'll know it was a genuine accident and that you've gone to loads of trouble to put it right so it could work in your favour in the long run with referrals hopefully.
