I still get the odd interior job, mostly cig burns, carpets, not so many dash repairs these days. Easy money though ;D

Very few compared with the 1995 to 2005 period, when you could get some good money from the jobs. I also remember the phone hole era, now that was good easy money.

I also had a great time de-etching vehicles that the dealers got wrong, I remember doing 7 in one day for White Arrow all at £125 per car. The guy got the first vehicle wrong and carried on the the rest of the line.

I think the market for leather repairs lies away from the motor trade, or certainly a lager part of it. You can charge far more for repairing a sofa than you can a car seat. Maybe the consumables we used to buy but some when off in the jars between jobs, or in other words had a very short shelf life.

Sorry Graham, i never seen your last post.
Your prob right about upholstery repairs for the domestic market, guy i know makes a good living out of it!
Regarding 'shelf life', i have some stuff from Image that is good as the day i bought it, all the leather crack compounds etc. SEM paints are still ok as well and i've had them a good few years. Maybe im lucky but i regard Image stuff as one of the best imho.

Dave it was Image I used to use, Will Millar and myself go back a long way to about 1986 I think, both ex car dealers and all that stuff. We were both also in the Novus network for a while. I would imagine the consumables have moved on a long way since I last did leather repairs.

I suppose it may be because of the amount of time I have been in the trade, that I always look for customers outside of it. Furniture shops are often looking for leather repair guys, as they seem to come and go a lot.

Colour matching is an issue without a spectrometer?

I would have thought D.F.S is much like a Ford Dealership, where all they are often more concerned with price. Just Google furniture shops in Liverpool, you will be suprised how many there are.

Of course on top of this there are many professions that use leather seats, my wife is a chiropodist and her chair cost over £2,500, certainly if it got marked or damaged it would need repairing.

Just thinking out of the box guys at other markets, most smart repairers are chasing a slice of the same cake and the slices are getting thinner.

So your saying that colour match and mixing requires skill which needs to be honed though daily practice?
