ssr instead of full spray set up
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:46:03 PM »
hello screen man, thanks for the advice, ill probably be getting a delta kit, if you  know of any second hand units you can get a hold of id be interested! ill need some training also but im keen so i guess that helps!  ;D ;D ;D

anyways was thinking about expanding to providing scratch repair with the ssr system. although at £2000 + for a kit ot wont be any time soon!

just wanted to ask your opinion on the ssr system also, looks like its easier and cheaper than a full spray paint set up. i understand the ssr wont do as much as a full spray but it seems to be able to handle a fair bit.

cheers!

Hi, I do not know of any second hand Delta Kits on the market, must say that they are all in use to me.

As for the SSR bit I will let the painters answer that one.

Ha,

Myself i find silver a pain in the arse and paul told me to start the repair in
white first but netenergy`s done it awhile longer than me i hope he will add
to this thread ??

And really there is no contest here paint versus SSR one is much cheaper than the other ?
but it`s the customers chioce at the end of the day a flawless finish or a cosmetic repair no
contest again but customers own chioce ???

Seeing as no one else wants to answer your question I will give my experience.

I have never owned a SSR system however I have owned and worked with the I-Mac system which I believe to be almost one and the same, certainly smells the same.

I used I-Mac around a very select few garages that I did work for in the middle to late nineties, I did very well with the system touching up to 8 cars a day at £50 per go, well in fact my son did, because I hated the job and still do dislike touching in, I never know when to stop.

Now a couple of things to remember here, these were existing customers that wanted their cars looking good, I did stone chips not the scratches that SSR show. The colours were far easier than todays mix of mica's and light metalic's, which in my opinion do not touch in well. (somebody may disagree with me on that) We also did not have so many guys offering full paint work mobile as we do now, these guys will also touch in the odd stone chip or scratch when asked to often FOC, silly guys.

To summise SSR works, but can you sell it some guys certainly can but many cannot, the market is smaller than my day and far more savvy. I think as an add on to another skill it may have its place, I think some paint guys that only carry WB could use it well for touch ups as an upsell.

The market I feel is mainly trade, so this could be seasonal.

Myself I think there are easier and less time consuming ways of doing £50 worth of work. Which is why I do not offer the service any more.

Come on guys this fellow asked for opinion can we give him some answers, Andy I think you have the system how are you finding it business wise.

Can I ask if anyone who bought the SSR system looked at some of the many alternatives on the market.

I've still got most tints available in my old celly based system.  I don't spray with it anymore but it comes in useful for touching up the odd chip or filling in a scratch as I guess you would with an ssr system.  If they want a proper flat and respray job then I use my wb system.

screeny,

Net energy may disagree with me on some points here but i find the kit is excellent
and easy to use but it is better at darker colours than light yeh sure it would be better
suited to traders than public because i repaired my cousins blue porsche and the repair
colour is fading so ive re applied but netenergy told me a probable course ofwhy it has faded ?

Andy, did you look at all the other alternatives on the market, and how are you getting on selling it to the trade?

I am just asking some of the questions the OP might like answered.
